Little Lougheed (winter hike)

Nice 4.5 km hike featuring approximately 685 m elevation gain. This time the entire trail to the very top was well packed. Steady moderate ascent, a bit steeper before the summit. The trail head is right on the left side of 742, if you are coming from Canmore. Once you reach the fork with 2 bridges, cross the one to the left. Can be sections with more snow here and there, especially after the big rock viewpoint. Take a look […]

Rummel Ridge (winter hike)

It was -18C when we stepped on the trail and +1C when we returned back. Other than that, very nice and rewarding winter hike. Usually popular and very well packed till the end. Don’t miss the right turn at the fork, if you take left in the direction of Mt. Engadine, you won’t get to the ridge. Not a lot of easy winter hikes, this is one of them. This is the flyover: Rummel Ridge Winter Hike Our track is […]

The Rimwall

On the picture above there is The Rimwall mountain, as it’s seen from the Wind Ridge, which we hiked a few weeks ago. Looks pretty intimidating from Dead Man’s Flats side, but from the South-West slopes it’s a surprisingly very pleasant hike, moderately challenging and highly rewarding. Allocate half day for it, but to really enjoy it you do need good weather. Don’t get scared away with foggy Spray Lakes in the morning, it happens more often that you might […]

Mount Sparrowhawk

Mount Sparrowhawk is a 3,121-metre (10,240 ft) mountain summit located in Kananaskis Country in the Canadian Rockies of Alberta, Canada. Mount Sparrowhawk’s nearest higher peak is Mount Bogart, 3.6 km (2.2 mi) to the southeast. Mount Sparrowhawk was named in 1917 for HMS Sparrowhawk, a British destroyer that sank during the Battle of Jutland in World War I. This mountain’s name was officially adopted in 1922 by the Geographical Names Board of Canada. The first ascent of the peak was […]

Wind Tower

I was fascinated by the Wind Tower when I saw ascent trail to its summit (photo above) during my solo Little Lougheed hike. Since late May it was just a matter of good weather and smoke free weekend, when we finally decided to go for it. The hike turned out to be not too hard (just may be a bit steep before the summit, but totally OK if you just switch to 1st gear), and very rewarding. Allocate half day […]

Little Lougheed

Nice short trail which I tried to do in winter but turned back at the big boulder viewpoint because of deep snow. It was perfect this time. If you take 742 from Canmore, U-turn and park your car on the left side of the road, the trailhead is right there. Once you reach the fork with 2 bridges, cross the one on the left (the right bridge leads to Lougheed). Steady ascent through the forest for about 1.3 km, then […]

Tent Ridge Horseshoe

We did this trail on July 31, 2022 in counter clock. If you do it in summer, bring lots of water! Trail preview here. It starts at the dusty Mt. Shark Road where you park the car, goes along Monica Brook creek
