There are two approaches to Fortress – via Chester Lake or via Headwall Lakes. Both lead to the col between Mount Chester and The Fortress from different sides, and then you hike up the southwest ridge all the way to the summit. Fairview Mountain (2744 m, 9003ft) is situated along the southeastern shoreline of Lake Louise. It was named in 1894 by Walter Wilcox, and the name reflects the view from the top.
