Memorial Lakes (angles)

Three Memorial Lakes are located around Bogart Tower, below Mount Bogart in Kananaskis Country. The name commemorates 13 passengers of three different air crafts that crashed in the area in 1986. The first was a passenger plane, and the second two were search and rescue aircraft. Here are the photos of Memorial Lakes taken from different perspectives during our hikes. Mount Sparrowhawk

Mount Sparrowhawk is a 3,121-metre (10,240 ft) mountain summit located in Kananaskis Country in the Canadian Rockies of Alberta, Canada. Mount Sparrowhawk’s nearest higher peak is Mount Bogart, 3.6 km (2.2 mi) to the southeast. Mount Sparrowhawk was named in 1917 for HMS Sparrowhawk, a British destroyer that sank during the Battle of Jutland in World War I. This mountain’s name was officially adopted in 1922 by the Geographical Names Board of Canada. The first ascent of the peak was […]

Midnight Peak

Midnight Peak is located in the Kananaskis River valley along Highway 40. Here are the photos of the mountain which we took from different places at different times during or hikes, so you can see how the mountain looks from different perspectives.

The Fortress

There are two approaches to Fortress – via Chester Lake or via Headwall Lakes. Both lead to the col between Mount Chester and The Fortress from different sides, and then you hike up the southwest ridge all the way to the summit. There are multiple routes on the ridge but they all end up on the left side of the summit block where there is an easy scramble up to the top. If you see there a path with exposure, […]

Boundary Ridge via Powderface Trail

More photos from Boundary Ridge via Powderface Trail. A very good guide for this hike can be found here. Our track is here, but it’s not ideal – the trail is overgrown and we lost it and found again a few times.

Ship’s Prow

Ship’s Prow is the South peak of Ehagay Nakoda. It is named for its prominent, ship’s prow-like appearance on the end of Ehagay Nakoda as seen from the nearby town of Canmore, Alberta (Wikipedia) More photos:

Wind Tower

I was fascinated by the Wind Tower when I saw ascent trail to its summit (photo above) during my solo Little Lougheed hike. Since late May it was just a matter of good weather and smoke free weekend, when we finally decided to go for it. The hike turned out to be not too hard (just may be a bit steep before the summit, but totally OK if you just switch to 1st gear), and very rewarding. Allocate half day […]
