Wasootch Peak

Wasootch Peak is one of not too many hikes which are doable all year round. Small trailhead parking is on the left side of HW40 if you are coming from Calgary, about 200m before Mt. Allan Drive intersection. We always come early, so if you too come first, park your car on the road side perpendicularly.

We tried it as a winter hike but too much snow and wind made it very difficult and we turned back a few hundred meters from the top. This time it was a success. Almost all snow gone, there were no wind (except at the summit, but nothing crazy). The final push to the summit is steep,

there are some sections with lose rocks, and right before the summit you have to scramble a few meters up, but all holds are steady, look like stairs, and it’s not a problem at all.

We saw some people traversing to Kananaskis Peak, and that can be a good idea for the next adventure.

Another good idea is the ridge hike from Olympic Peak to Mounts Allan and Collembola, which is well seen across HW40 from Wasootch, but it’s too much snow yet, and we’ll try it may be in June or July: Olympic Peak, Mounts Allan and Collembola
